Chicken Parmesan

Chicken Parmesan is an Italian-American favorite featuring crispy breaded chicken breasts topped with marinara sauce and gooey melted mozzarella. Served over pasta or tucked into a sandwich, this hearty, crowd-pleasing dish brings together savory, cheesy, and saucy perfection in every bite. It’s a guaranteed hit for family dinners or date nights at home.

Ingredients

For the chicken:

2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts (sliced in half lengthwise into 4 cutlets)

Salt & pepper to taste

½ cup all-purpose flour

2 eggs, beaten

1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 tbsp olive oil (for pan frying)

For baking:

1½ cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Chopped fresh basil or parsley (for garnish)

Optional: cooked spaghetti or linguine for serving

Instructions

Prep the chicken

Pound chicken cutlets to even thickness if needed. Season both sides with salt and pepper.

Dredge and coat

Set up 3 bowls: flour in one, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan in the third. Dredge each cutlet in flour, dip in egg, then coat with breadcrumb mixture.

Pan-fry

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry chicken for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

Assemble and bake

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Place fried chicken in a baking dish. Spoon marinara over each piece, then top with mozzarella and a sprinkle of Parmesan.

Bake

Bake uncovered for 15–20 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly and chicken reaches 165°F internal temp.

Serve

Garnish with chopped basil or parsley. Serve over pasta or with a side salad and garlic bread.
